We should worry
more about Dengue than the rising viral disease Chikungunya.
This is what
Malay Municipal Health Officer Dr. Adrian Salaver has said during an interview.
Salaver said
that Chikungunya is more fatal than Dengue which can possibly lead to death.
But this doesn’t
mean that it would be taken for granted.
Chikungunya is a
viral disease that is also spread by mosquitoes.
Its symptoms include
fever, severe joint pain, muscle pain, headache, nausea, fatigue and rashes.
While it shares
some clinical signs with dengue, the latter is marked with a fluctuating fever,
aching eyes, pain at the legs, joints, and lumbar area, and a low heart rate.
Salaver added
that the carrier mosquitoes usually come out during the evenings and early
hours in the morning.
He advised the
public to take precaution especially this rainy season.
