Preparations for APEC Summit 2015 in Boracay now in full swing

The Local Government Unit of Malay is thoroughly preparing for the upcoming Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit in Boracay.

During the 1st Regular Session in Malay this last Tuesday, 2015 APEC Task Group Focal Person and SB Member Rowen Aguirre said that they provided funds for the upcoming ministerial meeting on the island.

Among of these is the repair of Boracay roads and the National road from Kalibo International Airport going to Caticlan, Malay in partnership with the National Government and the Department of Public Works and Hi-ways (DPWH).

As part of the Summit preparation, Aguirre added that they soon to build LED street lights on the island, and several security related meetings with the organizing committee have been made.

It was noted that the LGU Malay continuously have seminars for the upcoming APEC Summit this May that will be attended by over two 2,000 delegates from 21 countries together with their families.

PESO calls Boracay employees to process their PESO ID in Municipal Action Center

Good news!

Effective last January 5, 2015, all Boracay-based employees and workers whether foreign or local, may begin to process their PESO ID at the Malay Municipal Action Center MPDC Zoning Department.

Employees can look for Hoven Tayco or call hotline numbers at 288-2016 or cellphone numbers 09284135787 or 09177215366 or e-mail at mpdc_office@yahoo.com.

Meanwhile, requirements for Municipal Tourism Office Endorsement include: FOR AGENCY/ASSN./COOP: Endorsement from Agency/Association/Cooperative. FOR INDIVIDUAL/ESTABLISHMENTS/TRAVEL & OPERATORS: Certification of Employment. FOR FOREIGN TOUR GUIDES: Working Permits/Visa and other related documents, Municipal Tourism Front Liners’ Enhancement Program Certificate (Executive Order No. 011, Series of 2012), Accomplished Municipal Tourism Front liner’s Form/Profile (Municipal Ordinance No. 150, Series of 2002).

Requirements for PESO ID are: Individual Occupational Permit, Local/Foreign Tourist Guide, Coordinator & Escort and Foreign Tour Guide & Coordinators.

Liaisons Officers train for Boracay APEC Summit 2015

LGU Malay has trained liaisons officers and support staff as part of APEC Summit 2015 liaison service in Boracay.

The liaisons officers for APEC Summit here this May 2015 will undergo more trainings to better prepare them for the event.

The delegation and liaison officers are tasked to help organize the APEC meetings as well as facilitate the needs of the guests.

Thus, the said training is to improve their communication skills along with more than 2,000 delegates from 21 countries who will be attending the Summit in Boracay.

These Liaison Officers include teachers, municipal employees and volunteers who undergo thorough interview before passing as liaison officers.

According to Malay APEC 2015 Task Group Focal Person and SB Member Rowen Aguirre, these are just some of their preparations for the upcoming APEC including security preparations.

Meanwhile, the training for the liaison officers was spearheaded by the Malay LGU in partnership with Boracay Redevelopment Task Force (BRTF) that is also preparing for the APEC 2015 in the island.

DILG, OCD held Integrated Planning Training on Incident Command System in Boracay

Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) in partnership with the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) opened here yesterday the Integrated Planning Training on Incident Command System.

According to OCD-DND Region VI, Chief Operations Officer Joseph Paul Nogra: “The said training is deliberated for Malay local government units and Boracay   in line with their  goal of ensuring climate change adaptive and disaster resilient communities and in preparation for the upcoming Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit 2015.”

The planning training was also attended by disaster risk reduction and management officers and stakeholders from the municipalities of Malay and Aklan Province.

Meanwhile, Nogra added that the provincial government of Aklan is now on its 90 percent preparation for the APEC.

Furthermore, He said: “the event aims to assist LGU participants on the formulation or updating of contingency plans conducted few months later for possible disaster risks or hazards in their respective localities and for them to practice what they have learned from their previous training on Geographic Information System (GIS) for Climate Change and Disaster Risk Vulnerability Reduction.”

OCD also coming up with such activity to provide LGUs an effective action and judicious mobilization of resources in response to specific type of disaster or emergency.

The said department emphasized the importance of continuously developing the skills of local leaders or DRRM officers in formulating plans in ensuring a climate change adaptive and disaster resilient communities in Malay especially in the island of Boracay.

Various issues retackled as SB Malay Council resumes regular session

After a long vacation, the SB Malay Council has resumed their regular session this first Tuesday of the year 2015.

Among the issues expected to be discussed here is the preparation for the upcoming Boracay Sto. NiƱo Ati-Atihan which will held this coming January 9 to 11, and the upcoming Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit 2015 in May.

Sangguniang Bayan of Malay is also scheduled to discuss some projects for the year 2015 on the island of Boracay and the town of Malay including the widening project in the island and the E-trike implementation program.

Meanwhile, as expected, the local officials here will discuss their fund allocations for this year aside from earlier targeted projects for the municipality.
