According to Aklan Provincial Health Officer Dr. Cornelio Cuachon Jr., based on their data, the incident this year is lower by one case.

PHO’s statistics showed eight recorded firecracker injuries, some were from the use of “kwitis” or skyrockets, whistle bombs and triangles.

There were no recorded incident of stray bullets and firework congestions in the province.

Firecracker victims’ ages ranged from 3 to 39 years old.

Meanwhile, Cuachon advised those injured with firecrackers and are self-medicating to have it checked in hospitals or clinics to avoid tetanus.

Cuachon said there are cases where the wounds are smaller, but black powder may have entered the cut which can lead to further infection.
