Some BTAC police to be replaced for APEC Summit

Some BTAC or Boracay Tourist Assistance Center police are to be replaced for APEC Summit.

Based on the information, the police man with a height of 5'6 will be retained in the Boracay PNP and those who have not reached the height requirements will be assigned to other police station in Panay Island.

Police women who are 5’4 in height will also be retained.

Boracay PNP wants to be prepared for the upcoming APEC Summit to be attended by more than two thousand delegates from different countries.

Meanwhile, some BTAC policemen said that they are ready to obey orders for the said cause.

SP Aklan evaluates zoning ordinance from the municipality of Malay

Aklan Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) is now evaluating the Revised Zoning Ordinance from the municipality of Malay.

During the SP Regular Session this Wednesday, the council put this on the table and decided to have a quorum in order to discuss and for the approval thereof.

It can be recalled that Sangguniang Bayan (SB) Malay passed the said ordinance to organize the building constructions in the municipality especially in the island of Boracay.

Meanwhile, a 'Zoning Ordinance' is a written regulations and laws that define how property in specific geographic zones can be used.

Zoning ordinances specify whether zones can be used for residential or commercial purposes, and may also regulate lot size, placement, bulk (or density) and the height of structures.

BLTMPC request endorsement from SB for additional passenger vehicle

The Boracay Land Transportation Multi-Purpose Cooperative (BLTMPC) asks for an endorsement from Sangguniang Bayan of Malay (SB) for additional units of passenger vehicle in the island.

During the 4th regular SB Session of Malay on Tuesday, BLTMPC Chairman Joel Gelito made the request from the councilmen.

Gelito said that he wanted to solve the shortage of passenger vehicles in Boracay particularly the Multicabs.

He added that there is a shortage of vehicle whenever there is a cruise ship visiting the island.

The chairman also expressed that his request is in line with the upcoming Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit in Boracay.

Meanwhile he said that they have currently 18 units on standby with permits from Land Transportation Office (LTFRB).

Gelito wants an additional 60 units of Multicabs in Boracay but only 18 of them were approved.

In response to Gelito’s request, the council said that there is still a need for a study led by SB member Leal Gelito as Chairman of the Committee on Transportation before those vehicles can fully operate.

BLTMPC to provide service multicab for schools in Boracay

Boracay Land Transportation Multi Multi-Purpose Cooperative (BLTMPC) is planning to provide service multicab for schools in the island.

This was revealed by BLTMPC Chairman Joel Gelito when he attended the 4th Regular Session of SB Malay yesterday.

Gelito said that it is their way to help the students in Boracay who always find it very difficult to ride on a tricycle going to their home.

It was learned that students usually spend almost an hour before they can ride on a tricycle because some tricycle drivers ignore them.

Hence, BLTMPC presented their plan to Malay council members regarding the additional unit on the island.

Meanwhile, the Sangguniang Bayan Officials are seemingly in favor of the said plan.

DA Aklan assures adequate supply of agricultural products in Boracay

Aklan Provincial Agriculturist William Castillo is assuring the resort and hotels that there is adequate food supply to meet demand in the island of Boracay.

Speaking at an interview by this station yesterday, Castillo said that the province has sufficient plantains, yet there are some difficulties in importing fish because of the northeast monsoon that draws a cold weather condition.

He is therefore urging public not to panic. “Let me say categorically that there is no need for the kind of hysteria being perpetuated,” Castillo said.

Meanwhile, there was a report that some of the hotels and resorts in Boracay are sometimes forced to take agricultural products in other provinces due to lack of foodstuffs in Aklan.

DOJ junks 2015 Aklan General Base Market Values

Department of Justice (DOJ) junked 2015 General Revision of Base Market Values proposed by the province of Aklan.

In a nine-page decision on petitions filed by two Aklan officials, Justice Secretary Leila de Lima declared that the tax raise did not comply with procedural requirements under the Local Government Code.

Thus, the real property tax increase in Aklan is “null and void for being contrary to law,” declared the Department of Justice.

On the other hand, it can be recalled that Sangguniang Panlalawigan member Rodson Mayor and New Washington mayor Edgar Peralta filed petitions asking the Justice department to declare the tax hike illegal.

De Lima also noted that her department did not receive any comment from the provincial government regarding the petitions.

Meanwhile, Provincial Assessor’s Office head Kokoy Soguilon, who provided this reporter a copy of the Department of Justice’s decision, said the provincial government will appeal the decision.

MS Europa 2 revisits Boracay

MS Europa 2 revisits Boracay.

With the estimated number of 500 passengers, it arrived in the territorial waters of Malay at around 8:00 am this morning and unloaded some tourists in Cagban Port.

Jetty Port officials, Department of Tourism, and LGU Malay welcomed the passengers who went for island tour in some areas of interest like the long beach, D’Mall, souvenir shops and restaurants in the island.

Philippine coastguard, coastguard auxiliaries, Maritime and PNP personnel and Caticlan Securities were seen on the port for the security of the tourists.

Meanwhile, Caticlan Jetty Port Special Operation Officer III Jean Pontero confirmed that the cruise ship MS Europa 2 will be leaving the island by 2:00 pm bound for its next destination in Tagbilaran, Bohol.

It was MS Europa’s 4rth visit in Boracay.

5 BNHS Manoc-Manoc Extension students competes for Western Visayas Regional meet

Five students from Boracay National High School (BNHS) Manoc-Manoc Extension will compete with 3000 athletes in Western Visayas on February 8-13, 2015 in the province.

According to BNHS Manoc-Manoc Extension School Head Victor Supetran, they have one player for secondary baseball, one for secondary basketball boys and three players for the secondary softball.

He said: “The students from elementary and secondary divisions are all ready to compete in six provincial delegations this February.”

Meanwhile, 2015 Western Visayas Regional Athletic Association (WVRAA) Meet has this year’s theme “Sports: Paving the way towards peaceful and delightful schools.”

In this regard, the provincial government of Aklan and the Department of Education are all ready to welcome around 3,000 athletes from elementary and secondary divisions in six provincial delegations this February.

Winners of WVRAA Meet will represent the region in Tagum City, Davao del Norte in Mindanao for the 2015 Palarong Pambansa.

Ati-Atihan Festival in Ibajay, Aklan, successfully held

The Local Government Unit of Ibajay, Aklan successfully held their Ati-Atihan Festival 2015 last Sunday.

Thousands of people watched and enjoyed in street dancing in conjunction of parade of beautiful floats where every barangay in Ibajay showcased their product.

The town appeared like a big city due to the influx of people and devotees of Senior Santo Niño from different towns in the province who joined the occasion, creating a heavy traffic on national road.

Meanwhile, some celebrities in the country like Arjo Atayde and Karyle Marquez were spotted during the Ati-Atihan celebration.

Ibajay which hold the festival every 4rth Sunday of January is one of the towns in the province of Aklan that annually holds the Santo Niño Ati-Atihan.

BNHS Manoc-manoc Extension G7 early registration reaches 54 students

A total of 54 students were being documented in in Boracay National High School (BNHS) Manoc-Manoc Extension G7 early registration.

This was BNHS Manoc-Manoc Extension School Head Victor Supetran confirms in an interview associated with the Department of Education (DepEd) preliminary G7 Early Registration on Saturday.

In this regard, Supetran again appealed especially parents in BNHS to make an early registration just before the sprint month of June.

Meanwhile, though only few students were being registered in BNHS Manoc-Manoc Extension, it was recorded that BNHS Main documented 209 students while 40 in Lamberto H. Tirol National High School in Barangay Yapak.

For the moment, a different school has also now a continuous campaign in the island for the out of school youth to study again.

G7 Registration will end on February 27, 2015.
