Traffic re-routing in Boracay, systematically prepared for APEC Hosting

There has been a systematic groundwork with regards to the traffic re-routing in Boracay for the preparation of Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Hosting.

According to SB Member Rowen Aguirre, they discussed the preparation and also make up a project meeting together with the Provincial Engineer's Office and Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) intended next year as part of preparations for the said traffic re-routing.

Aguirre added that, “There are plans and proposals that required a proficient studies together with some government agencies in order to attain agreeable results.”

In contrast, he said that they do not take it easy; rather there should be a continuous preparation for the said hosting.

Boracay Island Water Company, Boracay PNP, Jetty Port Officials are just among who are present during the meeting yesterday.

Aklanon policeman that was chosen as COPS awardee, recognized by SP Aklan

There has been an increase in the morale of policemen in Aklan.

This is because, a policeman assigned in Aklan Police Provincial Office (APPO) is among the admirable awardees of this year’s Country’s Outstanding Policemen in Service (COPS).

Police Officer 3 Michael Dalisay Pontoy, 37, from Antipolo, Ibajay, Aklan, is leading the outstanding policemen for non-commissioned officers’ category.

Pontoy’s unselfish and untiring efforts, professionalism and devotion to duty earned him a sterling police career worthy of emulation.

In this regard the Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) Aklan recognized and also gave awards to Pontoy during the 29th SP Regular Session diligence and devotion in his duties as police officer.

Meanwhile, the candidates for COPS were judged based on their accomplishments in crime solution and prevention with community involvement, awards and recommendations from the PNP, the impact of the project or crime resolved and recognition from the community.

A COP is a joint undertaking between the Metrobank Foundation, Inc. and the Rotary Club of New Manila East in partnership with the Philippine National Police (PNP) and PSBank.

LGU Malay urges accreditation for E-trikes in Boracay

All operating and to-be operators of E-trike on the island of Boracay are urged to pass an accreditation from LGU Malay.

Vice Mayor Wilbec Gelito during the 25th SB Session in Malay last Tuesday said that they made a resolution for the application of the E-trike’s accreditation, wherein all companies of E-trike should follow the design made by the LGU for the comfort of all passengers.

Meanwhile, Tojo Motors recently applied for accreditation as a supplier of E-trike units on the island of Boracay.

Boracay-Malay bridge feasibility study still on a floating status

The study of Daewoo Engineering and Construction Company in Boracay, Malay proposed bridge is still on a floating status.

This was confirmed by Vice Mayor Wilbec Gelito during the 25th Session of SB Malay.

Gelito said that until now they have not yet received any result after granting the said company for a feasibility study on the proposed project few months later after the news went viral about the bridge construction for the island of Boracay.

It can be recalled that Daewoo Company negotiated with Mayor John Yap, which the latter made a request to the Committee on Laws and the Committee on Public Utilities to enter into a MOA or Memorandum of Agreement with Daewoo Engineering and Construction Co. Ltd. for a feasibility study.

DepED Aklan, strictly monitors the sale of soft drinks and junk foods in schools

Department of Education (DepED) reminded school canteens that selling junk food and soft drinks is strictly prohibited in all public elementary and secondary schools nationwide.

Office of DepED Aklan Program Supervisor I, Marivic Tolentino said that away from the monitoring, there were still a few schools in Aklan that are still allegedly infringing it.

She said that based on DepED Order No. 8, Series of 2007, or the “Revised Implementing Guidelines on the Operation and Management of School Canteens in Public Elementary and Secondary Schools,” only “nutrient-rich foods and fortified food shall be sold in school canteens.”

Meanwhile, Tolentino reminded school canteens that selling unhealthy snacks and carbonated drinks are strictly prohibited in all public elementary and secondary schools nationwide.

DepED also recommends to parents and students to only eat nutritious foods when they are inside the school premises and also reminded parents and students not to patronize such products for good health.

The order added that the “sale of carbonated drinks, sugar-based synthetic or artificially flavored juices, junk foods, and any food product that may be detrimental to the child’s health” is prohibited.

Boracay PNP, stood that they do their best in order to suppress criminality on the island

Boracay PNP said that they do their best in order to suppress criminality on the island.

According to Boracay Deputy Chief P/Insp. Fidel Gentallan, this is one of their mandates from Police Integrated Patrol System (PIPS) higher headquarters to conduct and practice check points and the so called “operation bakal.”

Gentallan added that the said crime prevention activities are essential and also urged the support of the community though asking for public understanding affected by their checkpoints.

Meanwhile, he said that they will continue the check points at night to obstruct criminalities on the island.

On the other hand, this last few days public on the island was surprised because of the consecutive check points conducted by Boracay PNP.

KBP Aklan prepares KBP "Oplan Broadcastreeing"

Kapisananan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas (KBP) Aklan Chapter is currently preparing for the upcoming “Oplan Broadcastreeing Project.”

Although, it was not yet found in agenda, KBP Aklan Chapter President Ron Bautista said that he is now preparing that it will be included in the next KBP meeting.

Bautista also emphasized how important it is to plant trees because of different disasters and worsening impact of climate change.

“KBP is also preparing for the KBP Accreditation Exam this coming October 18.” He added.

Meanwhile, the annual KBP projects tree planting activity is being coordinated by the DILG and KBP together with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources which is the main implementer of the National Greening Program per Executive Order No. 26 signed by President Benigno Aquino III.

Biggest APEC meeting to be held in Boracay, Island

The biggest APEC or Asia Pacific Economic Conference Summit 2015 meeting will be held in the island of Boracay.

Malay APEC 2015 Task Group Focal Person and SB Member Rowen Aguirre said almost two thousand delegates are expected to attend the Ministerial meeting in the island from 21 countries, wherein participants are going to stay in Boracay for almost 18 days or three weeks.

He noted that they only have nine months left to prepare for the APEC especially for the security of the participants.

Meanwhile, APEC Summit in 2015 which will be covered by media organizations from different countries is said to be of great promotion for the island of Boracay.
