Gov. Miraflores, works alongside DOTC to purchase pontoon for Cagban Port

Aklan Governor Joeben Miraflores had a conversation with Caticlan Jetty Port Administrator Nieven Maquirang.

Maquirang, during the Sangguniang Bayan (SB) Session in Malay last week, said the Governor told him that he will be requesting the Department of Transportation and Communication (DOTC) for the purchase of a Pontoon for the Cagban Jetty Port.

The said pontoon can be costly. A 100 by 6 meter wide can worth as much as 18 million pesos and is to be set with canopy and railings.

According to Maquirang, the province doesn’t have enough funding for this, the reason that they will be coordinating with the DOTC.

Meanwhile, Governor Miraflores assures that with DOTC’s help, it will be purchased soon and is expected to arrive this March or April.

A pontoon at the Cagban Jetty Port is the solution the provincial government is looking into to alleviate the sluggish operation of motorboats particularly during low tides.

BFP says Chinese New Year in Boracay “generally peaceful”

Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) said that celebration of the Chinese New Year in Boracay was generally peaceful.

According to BFP Chief Fire Inspector Stephen Jardeleza: “there has been no major incident recorded during the festivities.”

The Chinese New Year celebration in Boracay wrapped up during the wee hours of February 19 as several groups celebrated it with a fireworks display.

Meanwhile, Jardeleza explains that they summon two establishments who conduct fireworks display without a clearance from their office.

Furthermore, he added that BFP will continue to strengthen its efforts to ensure the safety of the public.

PRC Boracay-Malay Chapter host successful mobile blood donation drive

The Philippine Red Cross (PRC) Boracay-Malay Chapter is happy in their successful mobile blood donation drive held last Tuesday at Boracay Regency Beach Resort.

According to PRC Boracay-Malay Chapter Administrator Marlo Schoenenberger, they have recorded 74 successful blood donors in one day, which was attended by various private agencies in Boracay and the workers on the island.

Leading this drive are the employees of Boracay Regency Beach Resort, KABALIKAT CIVICOM, Boracay PNP, Philippine Army and Red Cross employees.

This mobile blood donation drive is held yearly by PRC Boracay-Malay Chapter in coordination with the said resort.

In addition, the Red Cross had other blood donation program in different places in the town of Malay for their ongoing goal to increase blood availability for those in need.

BFP intensifies inspections among fireworks in Boracay

Bureau of Fire Protection Unit (BFPU) Boracay will conduct the fireworks inspections today associated with the celebration of the Chinese New Year in the island of Boracay.

BFP Boracay Chief Fire Inspector Stephen Jardeleza said: “the conduct of inspection is in accordance with the Fire Code which requires a clearance from the BFP to have a fireworks display.”

“The law also requires them to have fire extinguishers and other methods of fire suppression near their establishments.” He added.

Meanwhile, Jardeleza emphasize that this is also to ensure safety use.

In this regard, Jardeleza also allegedly said that there were some establishments who make fireworks display last night without having a fixed clearance from their office, the reason why they could probably summon it now.

CBTMPC purchased Pontoon for Cagban Jetty Port

The pontoon was purchased by Caticlan Boracay Transportation Multi-Purpose Cooperative (CBTMPC) is expected to be delivered by this month of February.

According to Chairman CBTMPC Godofredo Sadiasa, they have ordered the 200 sq meter pontoon which is currently being made.

Sadiasa stressed that he decided to buy the pontoon because it is needed in Cagban Jetty Port during the Low Tide.

It was noted that some boats cannot duck on the ducking area, a reason for the slow port operation.

Nonetheless, Sadiasa clarified that just a few days before the arrival of the said pontoon, it is necessary for them to get permission from the Aklan provincial government if they will be allowed to put it in the port.

Meanwhile, the widening of ramp in Cagban Jetty Port is ongoing as part of the project of the Aklan Provincial Government and the Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC).
