PASSENGERS oN JETTY PORT STAIRS-COMPLAINTS… DOT &JETTY PORT MET… “STAIRS OF STEEL? IRON? oR CONCRETE? …”

The Boracay Department of Tourism met with Jetty Port Administrator Nieven Maquirang regarding the complaint of passengers about the broken stairs at the Cagban Jetty Port.

According to DOT Boracay Officer-In-Charge, Tim Ticar, he called Maquirang on Saturday, July 27 to talk about the repair of the stairs.

The materials to be used were talked about and one of the suggestions of Ticar was stainless steel to avoid corrosion.

Ticar explained that if iron is used, it will rust easily. While if it is made of concrete, it will shatter when hit by boats that dock.

Nevertheless, according to Ticar, Maquirang already had an idea on what replacement could be used aside from stainless steel.

Meanwhile, Ticar had allegedly heard that there was already an instruction from the Jetty Port Administrator to construct the broken stairs at the Cagban Jetty Port, and construction is about to start.

PPCRV Aklan, no instructions for the Baranggay and SK Elections yet

The Aklan Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting or PPCRV has not given any instructions for the Baranggay and SK Elections yet.

According to Aklan PPCRV Coordinator, Reverend Father Ulysses Dalida, they are still waiting for the mandate from the PPCRV Command Center in Manila on what moves will be carried out for the said elections on October 28.

Father Dalida also admitted that they weren't as active during the previous Baranggay Elections compared to the last National Elections.

He added that, although they do not have any poll watching this coming election, the PPCRV will still be there to observe.

The PPCRV is a national parish-based, non-partisan lay movement of the church that is continuously working for an honest and clean election.

CATICLAN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL PROBLEM, HOPED TO BE NOTICED bY CAAP

The decision of the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) regarding the problem of the Caticlan Elementary School in Malay is being awaited.

According to Caticlan Elementary School Principal, Antonio Justo Cahilig, only some of the problems experienced by their school are the noise coming from the landing and taking off of airplanes at the airport which is situated right beside the school.

Cahilig said the decision of the management of CAAP is still being awaited regarding the matter and on what is the better alternative so that the studies of children will not be affected.

The Principal added they have heard information from the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Malay and the CAAP that the school will be relocated to a place which is far from the airport but there is no clarity on the matter yet.

He also asked for help from the management of TransAir so that the school will be given sliding windows to replace the normal windows of the school, so that the noise brought about by airplanes entering the school’s classrooms, will be minimized.

He further added that there are instances when teachers just have to stop teaching when an airplane lands or takes off at the nearby airport.

For now, the Caticlan’s school is confident that the government of Malay will give attention to their problem for the benefit of their students.

BTAC, to construct a simulation disaster plan, in case of a closing activity for the National Disaster Awareness Month

The community’s cooperation for a secure island

This is what the Boracay Action Group or BAG has asked during the previously celebrated National Disaster Consciousness Month (NDCM).

And while the month of July is coming to a close, the Boracay PNP is preparing for a simulation disaster plan in case the BAG will have a closing activity for the NDCM celebration.

BTAC Chief for Intelligence and Operation Section, P/Insp. Keenan Ruiz, however said that they haven’t coordinated yet as to what activities will be conducted in relation to the mentioned closing.

Nonetheless, he said that they could perform an Earthquake Drill and Fire Drill alongside different agencies such as that of the Boracay Action group.

Meanwhile, Ruiz extended his gratitude to the community who took part for the said successful public awareness.

The National Disaster Awareness Month will conclude this coming Wednesday.
