Aklan Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) is now evaluating the Revised Zoning Ordinance from the municipality of Malay.

During the SP Regular Session this Wednesday, the council put this on the table and decided to have a quorum in order to discuss and for the approval thereof.

It can be recalled that Sangguniang Bayan (SB) Malay passed the said ordinance to organize the building constructions in the municipality especially in the island of Boracay.

Meanwhile, a 'Zoning Ordinance' is a written regulations and laws that define how property in specific geographic zones can be used.

Zoning ordinances specify whether zones can be used for residential or commercial purposes, and may also regulate lot size, placement, bulk (or density) and the height of structures.

The Boracay Land Transportation Multi-Purpose Cooperative (BLTMPC) asks for an endorsement from Sangguniang Bayan of Malay (SB) for additional units of passenger vehicle in the island.

During the 4th regular SB Session of Malay on Tuesday, BLTMPC Chairman Joel Gelito made the request from the councilmen.

Gelito said that he wanted to solve the shortage of passenger vehicles in Boracay particularly the Multicabs.

He added that there is a shortage of vehicle whenever there is a cruise ship visiting the island.

The chairman also expressed that his request is in line with the upcoming Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit in Boracay.

Meanwhile he said that they have currently 18 units on standby with permits from Land Transportation Office (LTFRB).

Gelito wants an additional 60 units of Multicabs in Boracay but only 18 of them were approved.

In response to Gelito’s request, the council said that there is still a need for a study led by SB member Leal Gelito as Chairman of the Committee on Transportation before those vehicles can fully operate.

Boracay Land Transportation Multi Multi-Purpose Cooperative (BLTMPC) is planning to provide service multicab for schools in the island.

This was revealed by BLTMPC Chairman Joel Gelito when he attended the 4th Regular Session of SB Malay yesterday.

Gelito said that it is their way to help the students in Boracay who always find it very difficult to ride on a tricycle going to their home.

It was learned that students usually spend almost an hour before they can ride on a tricycle because some tricycle drivers ignore them.

Hence, BLTMPC presented their plan to Malay council members regarding the additional unit on the island.

Meanwhile, the Sangguniang Bayan Officials are seemingly in favor of the said plan.

Aklan Provincial Agriculturist William Castillo is assuring the resort and hotels that there is adequate food supply to meet demand in the island of Boracay.

Speaking at an interview by this station yesterday, Castillo said that the province has sufficient plantains, yet there are some difficulties in importing fish because of the northeast monsoon that draws a cold weather condition.

He is therefore urging public not to panic. “Let me say categorically that there is no need for the kind of hysteria being perpetuated,” Castillo said.

Meanwhile, there was a report that some of the hotels and resorts in Boracay are sometimes forced to take agricultural products in other provinces due to lack of foodstuffs in Aklan.
