Sangguniang Bayan proposed a cityhood status for Malay
town on Tuesday’s Session.
Part of the deliberation is the revival of Resolution No.
66 Series of 2010 and the formation of an Ad Hoc Committee for that purpose.
According to SB Member Jupiter Gallenero, author of the
resolution, preparation of documents for the proposed cityhood of the
municipality of Malay is now on progress .
He added that upon reaching the required
minimum-population size and annual revenue, Malay is now qualified to become a
city.
They will also conduct a study to follow all requirements
and criteria for cityhood.
Tourism arrival of more than a million per year and the
strong tourism industry of the Island can add up to the basis of the
resolution.
Town council is hopeful that cityhood status will be
achieved as they will substantially prepare all requirements.
