Written by Jay-ar M. Arante

The number of Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) cases in Aklan increased this 2013 compared to the past year.

According to Aklan Provincial Health Officer Dr. Victor Sta. Maria, they have recorded 28 cases of HIV compared to 2012’s 24 cases.
Sta. Maria added that the Provincial Hospital has a satellite treatment, which is from Iloilo, which is being used for those who wish to have themselves checked.

Many HIV-positive patients do not show any symptoms, the doctor said.

This is its difference from AIDS which signs and symptoms can be found.

Meanwhile there is an Anti Retroviral drug that can be bought in the hospital in order to be relieved from the infection.

The PHO is encouraging those individuals who are having doubts that they may have acquired the said disease to consult a doctor to avoid more serious infections and to have early treatment.
